Background of the Study

Lecture hall occupancy management is a significant aspect of university administration, especially in institutions like Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, where there is a need for efficient resource allocation. Traditional methods of managing lecture hall occupancy, such as manual attendance tracking or reliance on pre-scheduled class timings, may not fully optimize the use of available spaces. AI-powered smart systems, on the other hand, can automate the management of lecture hall occupancy by analyzing real-time data such as student attendance patterns, room capacity, and scheduling conflicts. These systems can dynamically allocate rooms, track attendance, and optimize space utilization by adjusting schedules to avoid over-crowding or under-utilization. This study focuses on designing and implementing an AI-based smart lecture hall occupancy management system at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, to improve resource allocation and overall campus efficiency.

Statement of the Problem

At Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, the current methods for managing lecture hall occupancy are inefficient and lead to the underuse of available spaces, over-booking of certain lecture halls, and scheduling conflicts. Additionally, the lack of real-time data on student attendance and room capacity results in difficulties in optimizing room usage. The introduction of an AI-based smart system could help resolve these issues by providing real-time updates on room occupancy and suggesting optimal schedules. This research aims to investigate the design and implementation of such a system for better occupancy management at the university.

Objectives of the Study

1. To design an AI-based system for managing lecture hall occupancy at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi.

2. To implement the AI system and test its effectiveness in real-time occupancy management.

3. To evaluate the impact of the AI-based system on room utilization and administrative efficiency.

Research Questions

1. How can AI be used to optimize lecture hall occupancy at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi?

2. How effective is the AI-based system in reducing scheduling conflicts and optimizing room usage?

3. What are the perceptions of students and faculty regarding the AI-based lecture hall occupancy management system?

Research Hypotheses

1. The AI-based smart lecture hall occupancy management system significantly reduces scheduling conflicts compared to traditional methods.

2. The AI system improves room utilization efficiency by dynamically adjusting schedules based on real-time data.

3. Students and faculty are more satisfied with AI-managed lecture hall occupancy compared to traditional scheduling methods.

Significance of the Study

The implementation of this AI-based system will enhance resource management at Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, by ensuring that lecture halls are optimally utilized. The system will also contribute to administrative efficiency, reducing time spent on manual scheduling and improving the student learning environment.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the AI-based lecture hall occupancy management system within Federal University, Birnin Kebbi. Limitations include potential integration challenges with existing infrastructure and the availability of data for real-time system updates.

Definitions of Terms

• AI-Based Smart System: A system that uses artificial intelligence to manage and optimize the allocation of resources, in this case, lecture halls.

• Room Utilization Efficiency: The degree to which lecture hall spaces are fully occupied without conflicts or underuse.

• Real-Time Data: Information that is processed and provided instantly, reflecting the current state of occupancy and scheduling.
